Chronic pain persists for at least six months. It can be physical, mental or emotional, or combinations of all three. It might be associated with a wound or amputated limb, anxiety, depression, PTSD, cancer, atrophying muscles, alcoholic excessiveness, taking opioids as a last resort, or cultural and sociological factors. It can be caused by a limitless array of experiences, messages and influences in our lives that, through repetition (or, sometimes, one powerful event) take hold as habits in our subconscious mind.
